Inaugural WCIO Mexico a Success!
Last week was the WCIO International Education Division’s first collaboration with our colleagues from the National Cancer Institute of Mexico. Dr. Adrian Gonzales from the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición ¨Salvador Zubirán¨reports on the meeting:
Workshops were great and people, mostly fellows had the opportunity to use multiple IR devices in vascular and non vascular procedures including the opportunity to install a Denver shunt in patient with malignant ascites and he is doing well.
In Cancun we had 50 participants registered for the meeting. We think that the quality of the lectures and the new WCIO format greatly increased our meeting quality. Dr. Filippiadis (University of Athens, Greece) was really great both academically and socially. It was great to have him in our program. Dr. Echenique (University of Miami, Florida) did also a great job.
For next year’s meeting, I think that the most important points are to maintain and expand our relationship with WCIO. Change from a multithematic to a monothematic meeting in order to have 2 or 3 years without the need of repeat subjects. I would like WCIO to be involved in other things outside the meeting, like standardization of training and procedures, trials, etc.
People in the organization and directors of the Cancer Institute really notice the change in quality of adopting the WCIO format. We look forward to grow this relationship.
