Another fabulous WCIO meeting has just come to a close at the midtown Hilton in New York City. With professional attendance up 20%, 45% international registrants, and record-breaking registration and industry support, WCIO further cements its status as THE world scientific meeting for interventional oncology.
Program chairs Riccardo Lencioni (Pisa, IT), Bill Rilling (Milwaukee, WI) , and Thierry de Baere (Villejuif, FR) put together a dynamic program of multidisciplinary disease management and tumor board sessions, science & technology lectures and abstracts, special focus symposia, and workshops. Live cases were transmitted from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Northwestern University.
The reprise of our highly successful Fellows Program, generously underwritten by our corporate partners, brought in about 25% of the IR Fellows in the country for a dedicated evening symposium and a private tour of the technical exhibit hall, where sponsors had undiluted facetime with these soon to be practicing physicians.
New this year was a day-long IO Nursing symposium, organized by the nurse practitioners from the University of Pennsylvania and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Also new were special focus sessions on the Global Evolution of IO in emerging markets, and Regulatory Pathways for Innovation in IO.
The popular workshops covered ablation in multiple organs, hands-on demonstrations from several vendors, DEB’s, Y-90, and a new workshop on Palliative Care covering Denver shunt placement and neurolysis techniques for control of cancer pain.
The CME program was rounded out by industry symposia sponsored by DFINE, Guerbet, SIemens, GE, Onyx/Bayer, and Biocompatibles/BTG. WCIO thanks our corporate sponsors and partners for their generous participation in the program.
The next two WCIO Annual Scientific Meetings will be held at the New York Hilton Midtown in May 2014 and 2015 -- see you there!
